Managing Consultant for Socitm Consulting. As of 1 November 2006, Doug Maclean, managing director of HBN has been appointed managing director of MWK Ltd, a company which has won a contract to run Socitm Consulting on behalf of the Society of IT Management. Doug now takes on the responsibility of Consulting Manager for Socitm, managing a network of 150 consultants, and delivering an ambitious business growth strategy to double the business size in the next 12 months. Already delivering a turnover of around £5 million, Socitm Consulting provides a healthy revenue stream to fund the member-focused activities of the Society. (Posted 7/11/06)

New staff at Ness Horizons - the recent appointment of Maralyn Allan as manager of our flagship business centre brings a new level of professionalism and attention to detail to the running of the centre. Having served as PA to one of the corporate directors in Highland Regional Council, and more recently to the Chief Executive of NOSWA and to the regional manager of Scottish Water, Maralyn brings appropriate skills to the job, and can assure all our clients of a professional and attentive service. Appointment to Socitm Consulting - HBN’s managing director, Doug Maclean, has been appointed by Socitm Consulting as its Deputy Managing Consultant. Working with Stephen Howes, Socitm’s Managing Consultant, Doug has played an important role on the management team of Socitm Consulting for a couple of years. Socitm Consulting is the largest provider of consulting services to local government in the areas in which it competes - primarily business transformation supported by technology. (posted 12/1/06)

SAP system goes live - the HBN-developed system for joint working between health and social care went live for the first time in Walsall Metropolitan Borough, the Walsall Training and Primary Care Trust and the Walsall Hospitals Trust. This places Walsall amongst the leaders in the single assessment process, which aims to ensure that the services provided by health and social care are person-centred, holistic, and joined up. Casefile audit tool launched - HBN has today launched an electronic system for casefile auditing in social care. Available as a stand-alone or networked system, the system provides analyses of the information quality of the files, by team, individual social worker, location, or type of service user. HBN launches system to support the Single Assessment Process (SAP) in England. The Single Assessment Process is a key element of the Government’s plans to improve social care for adults, and requires health and social care agencies to wok together in a person-centred approach which demonstrates that the different agencies are working together to meet the needs of the individual. The system facilitates this joint working by enabling information sharing, and enabling mobile working using tablet PCs.(posted 29/8/05)

Ness Horizons has recently completed the conversion of one of its meeting rooms to provide additional office accommodation for its clients. Faced with an increasing demand for office space, it was necessary to make the additional space available - bringing the number of work stations in the centre up to 46. (posted 18/5/05)

Doug Maclean, Managing Director of HBN, has been appointed as a registered OGC (Office of Government Commerce) business consultant. These registrations are made on the basis of interview and assessment of skill/experience and are renewable on a regular basis.(Added 24/4/05)

Contract extension - HBN’s work in Walsall Metropolitan Council, which has been running since March 2003, is likely to be extended further. It currently involves three consultants on a part time basis - one from HBN, one from HBN’s sister company Lambda Research and Consultancy, and a further consultant working to Socitm Consulting. Contract value to date for HBN and lambda is in excess of £300,000. (Added 24/4/05)

New contract - HBN has been appointed by Northampton Borough Council (with funding from IDeA) to undertake a review of BVPI 157 (one of the key performance indicators for e-government preparedness). This project is to be undertaken under a sub-contracting arrangement with Socitm Consulting. (Added 24/4/05)

New contract - HBN has recently won a contract with Learning Connections of Communities Scotland, to maintain the data content of their web-site. This marks an  important addition to the portfolio of similar contracts, in which HBN provides data management services. (Added 16/2/05)
